City of Frankfort Floodplain Management Plan |
...WILL PROTET LIFE, PROPERTY AND THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH COORDINATION AND
COOPERATION AMONG STAKEHOLDERS, REDUCE RISK AND LOSS, AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF
LIFE FOR THE PEOPLE OF FRANKFORT.
Developing a flood mitigation plan for the City of Frankfort will benefit both
the municipality and its residents. The City of Frankfort has suffered from
repeated losses due to flooding. The process of developing the plan will assist
the City with educating the general public and elected officials regarding the
flood risks and efforts that can be made to mitigate loss and protect human
health and safety. This plan could also serve as a roadmap for the City to
improve its CRS rating, therefore reducing the cost of flood insurance for the
residents and businesses in flood prone areas.
This floodplain management plan is a major step toward recognizing and reducing
risk throughout the City. It is also a requirement to qualify for federal hazard
mitigation funding. These funds may be used to help pay for projects intended to
reduce local exposure to loss of life or damage of property. Examples of
projects that qualify for federal funding include structure acquisition, flood
proofing and more.
A brief survey has been developed to collect information from the community. By
completeing this survey you will be providing vital information and local
perspective about the county. These data will help tailor the plan to
meet the specific needs of the county.
